Nutrition helps in working on diseases or conditions which can be prevented to a very great extent with a healthy diet. The food we eat helps to keep our bodies healthy, to be happy, to do routine work and also assists to live well. The nutrition requirements for different people are fixed based on the age, sex, weight, height and activity. Food gives us energy and all the necessary nutrition for the proper growth and development of human being. Nutrition pyramid helps in choosing the healthy food from many varieties of food choices. Nutrition pyramid helps in controlling the fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, sodium, sugar and calories necessary for the body. The most important nutrients required by the body are proteins, vitamins, minerals, water, fats and carbohydrates.
The consumption of sweets and fats should be very minimum in our diet and add dairy products (low fat) to get sufficient amount of calcium to our body. Fresh fruits and vegetables are the best source of vitamins and are rich in nutrients with vitamin A, C along with potassium folate but are very less in sodium and fat. Meat which is very less in fat should be consumed along with grains and cereals which are the best sources of energy. Add whole grain breads which are less processed and possess more vitamins, minerals and fiber instead of white bread or white flour. Nutrition pyramid suggests three to four servings of vegetables and three to four servings of fruits each day. You can reduce juice consumption as few of them contain more sugar content.
According to the study of nutrition pyramid, meat, fish and poultry help in supplying zinc, iron and protein to the body. Some other foods like beans and dried peas also contain the same nutrients. People who wish to gain all the nutrients from the foods they consume need to follow few measures in the stores like checking the date of manufacture, nutrition facts, storing procedures and purchasing only healthy foods. While cooking the food wash the hands and vegetables properly along with the given instructions on the labels.
